Main Section

The Sección Principal [Main Section] consists of established galleries chosen by an autonomous selection committee in charge of evaluating postulants’ proposals.

This category gathers and subsidizes a new generation of galleries that represent young artists in booths of approximately 40 m2.

The selection committee is the same as the Main Section.


It is a specially designed section within each gallery, exhibiting one or several emblematic works by a single modern or contemporary artist. With this proposal, arteBA offers to public or private institutions and collections works that meet with their needs and special interests.

A consulting committee is in charge of the selection.

Cardinal Site

A section that seeks to encourage collaborations and meeting points between Latin America and the rest of the world. Its purpose is to motivate dialogue between artists and galleries from different geographical locations and promote new relationships and exchanges. Galleries that participate in the Main Section apply to act as hosts of Cardinal Site, inviting foreign galleries to participate in arteBA with a collaborative project that includes artists from both sides.

An autonomous committee is in charge of the selection.

Solo Show

Solo Show is the section where Latin American artists and the galleries which represent them are invited to participate with individual exhibitions.

The participation in this section is in behalf of the curators.

Isla de Ediciones

The publications section of the fair includes guest editorial projects and a bookshop section specialized in contemporary art. Additionally, the Isla de Ediciones has its own auditorium with scheduled talks and book presentations.
This section is supported by Fundación Proa, in collaboration with Ternium and Federico Churba. Copies of publications from the Isla de Ediciones will be incorporated to Fundación Espigas’ archive for public use.

Eduardo Brandão. He studied photography at Brooks Institute of Photography, Santa Barbara, CA, USA. From 1991 throught 2004, he worked as photo editor at the magazine department at the biggest circulating daily newspaper in Brazil, Folha de S.Paulo. From 1985 and onwards, Brandão has worked as professor of photography at the Fine Arts Department of the Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP) in São Paulo.
As an independent curator, Brandão was responsible for the curatorship of the “Iconógrafos” (1991), at MAM (Museu de Arte Moderna de São Paulo); “Horizonte Reflexivo” (1998), Centro Cultural Light, São Paulo; “Sob Medida” (1999), Espaço Porto Seguro de Fotografia; “Imagética” (2003), MUMA (Museu Metropolitano de Arte de Curitiba); “Histórias de mapas, piratas e tesouros” (2010), Itaú Cultural, São Paulo; “Marcados Para…” – Claudia Andujar, Centro da Cultura Judaica, São Paulo (2011), among others.
Brandão has been the co-owner of Galeria Vermelho, in São Paulo since 2002 and currently holds a chair on the Board of Directors of MAM São Paulo.

Ana Castella

Cardinal Site Committee

Ana Castella has 11 years of experience in commercial galleries in Mexico and Europe. She graduated from the University of the Arts in London – Central Saint Martins, with a degree in Art, Design and Environment. Her thesis investigated new models of art presentation in public space. In 2007, she joined German gallery Sprüth Magers at the opening of their outpost in London, where she worked for 7 years. Upon her return to Mexico, she worked at Kurimanzutto gallery as sales associate for two years and then at joségarcía, mx as director. In 2018, she organized the first edition of Condo in Mexico City, coordinating the hosting of 27 international galleries across 22 local galleries. Currently, she is Head of Development at Museo Tamayo.

Henrique Faria

Henrique Faria is the founder of Henrique Faria, New York and Herlitzka + Faria en Buenos Aires Buenos Aires. Faria opened the gallery in 2001, specializing in Latin American geometric abstract artists such as Jesús Soto, Raúl Lozza, Gego, Mathias Goeritz and Alejandro Otero, as well as in contemporary mid-career artists as Luis Roldán, Emilia Azcárate and José Gabriel Fernández. In 2007, the gallery expanded to include Latin American conceptual practices, including work by Leandro Katz, Marta Minujín and Horacio Zabala, among others. As demand for Latin American art increases, the gallery has gathered the attention of international collectors, museums, and institutions. He lives and works in New York.

Florencia Malbran

Florencia Malbran is a curator of contemporary art; she has organized exhibitions in Argentina, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Colombia, and Paraguay. She has been in residence in France, Switzerland, and Spain, and was the Hilla Rebay International Fellow at the Guggenheim Museums in New York, Bilbao, and Venice. She has held curatorial positions at the Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires and the Pinacoteca do Estado in São Paulo. In 2018, she was Visiting Professor at Leuphana Universität in Germany. In 2017, she was Craig M. Cogut Visiting Professor in Latin American Studies at Brown University. She teaches at New York University in Buenos Aires, and has served on the faculties of NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study in New York City and Universidad de San Andrés.

Julián Mizrahi

Julián Mizrahi (Buenos Aires, 1978). He begin his career in 1997 in the Del Infinito gallery, founded by Estela Gismero. He studied economics at UBA and creativity at the Escuela Argentina de Creativos Publicitarios. In 2002, he gets his diploma as Art Director as well as he start drawing workshops with Daniel Fidanza. He specializes in creativity and lateral thinking in Human Integrity. He starts El Movimiento, an agency dedicated to guerrilla creativity and BTL (Below the Line). In 2003, the French network Publicis Groupe summoned him where he served as art director until 2008, winning several awards for creativity, strategy and innovation. In 2008, he returns to Del Infinito gallery and opens The Pool; first research and technology development unit within an art gallery. He works with The Human Interface Technology Laboratory of New Zealand. Make the first books in the world with Augmented Reality technology (2009). In 2013, he founded Beta, an experimental art gallery in Bogotá, Colombia. He was part of the Galaac board of directors and is an active contributor to Meridiano (Argentine Chamber of Contemporary Art Galleries). He worked with renowned artists like Enio Iommi, Raúl Lozza and Julio Le Parc among others. He is currently the director of the Del Infinito gallery. Focusing on the value and research of modern artists and promotion of contemporaries.

Ruth Estévez

Is the director and curator of the Gallery at REDCAT, Los Angeles, California. Between 2007 and 2011, she served as the chief curator at the Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, Mexico City, where she curated various exhibitions and projects with artists such as Mark Manders, Guy Ben-Ner, and Fernando Ortega, amongst others. In 2010, she co-founded LIGA – Space for Architecture, the first space in Latin America devoted to the critical reflection and presentation of architecture. Estévez has written extensively for various exhibition catalogues and art publications and has independently organized exhibitions in Spain, Belgium, the United States and Mexico. She holds a Master’s Degree in Art History from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).

Gabriela Rangel

Gabriela Rangel was born in Caracas in October 1963. She studied law and social communications at the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello, and film at the Escuela Internacional de Cine de San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba. She received a Master’s degree at the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College, Annandale on Hudson, New York.
Starting in 2004, she directed the Visual Arts department of Americas Society, New York’s oldest program devoted to Latin America. Prior to that, she worked at the Consejo Nacional de la Cultura (CONAC), the Fundación Cinemateca Nacional, the Museo Alejandro Otero, and the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. She currently serves as Artistic Director of MALBA-Costantini Foundation.
Her most recent exhibition projects include Erick Meyenberg, Re mayor no es azul (Museo Amparo, 2019) Lydia Cabrera and Edouard Glissant, Trembling Thinking (Hans Ulrich Obrist and Asad Raza, Americas Society, 2018-19), Jorge Eduardo Eielson (with Sharon Lerner, MALI, Lima) 2017-18; Archives of the Infra World: Nascimento-Lovera and Erick Meyenberg (Krinzinger Projekte, Vienna, 2017); The wheel bears no resemblance to a leg (with Lucia Sanromán, AS-Yerba Buena Center, San Francisco) 2017; The Art of Friendship: Xul Solar and Jorge Luis Borges (CCK, Buenos Aires) 2016; Hemispheres: A Labyrinth Sketchbook by Silvia Gruner (with Tatiana Cuevas, AS-Museo Amparo, Puebla,Mexico, 2015); Arturo Herrera, Les Noces (AS 2011); Gordon Matta-Clark: Undoing Spaces (with Tatiana Cuevas, Paço Imperial RJ, Museu de Arte Moderna de SP, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Santiago and MALI 2009–10); Marta Minujín, Minucodes (AS 2010), among others. She was a member of the curatorial team of Cartagena’s First Contemporary Art Biennial, and was artistic director of the Eighth Symposium in Contemporary Art Theory (SITAC) in Mexico City. She has published essays for the Recoleta Art Center (BsAs), the Gulbenkian Foundation, MALI, The National Art Gallery of Caracas, the Alejandro Otero Museum, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Design of New York, and Tate Modern, among others. Articles of hers have appeared in The Brooklyn Rail, Hyperallergic, Parkett, Trans>, Atlántica, and Art in America.

Alessio Antoniolli

Cardinal Site Committee

Alessio Antoniolli is the Director of Gasworks, London, where he leads a programme of artists’ residencies and exhibitions by emerging UK and international artists. Over the years he has established regular collaborative and co-production projects with other institutions including Tate Modern, London; Showroom Gallery, London and URRA, Buenos Aires amongst others.
More recently, he has collaborated with the Palais de Tokyo, Paris, for the Do Disturb programme of performances and is currently developing a project part of the Sydney Biennial 2020.
Alessio is also Director of Triangle Network, a global network of artists and grass-roots organizations where he is involved in advocacy, fundraising and strategic development for the network and its various partners. Amongst various Triangle projects he is currently working with Ugandan art institution 32 Degrees East for the development of their new art centre. Amongst his curatorial projects, he has co-curated, with Melina Berkenwald, Exposures, an exhibition of videos by contemporary Argentine artists at the Argentine Embassy in London. Alessio has lectured widely and has formed part of many UK and international juries including the UK’s prestigious Turner Prize in 2019.

Sonia Becce

In 2014 she was part of the jury at the first edition of Misol Foundation´s Award for Arts, Bogotá, curator of the Sergio Bazan´s exhibition in Zavaleta LAB Gallery, Buenos Aires and participated in the 3rd. a curatorial intervention of “Alejandra Seeber: Cuadro por cuadro”, at Miau Miau Gallery, in Buenos Aires.
In 2013, she curated the exhibitions AES+F: The Liminal Space Trilogy and Eduardo Navarro: Estudio Jurídico Mercosur III at Faena Arts Center in Buenos Aires. The same year, she was curator of the project Ensayo de situación II “Soy un pedazo de atmósfera”, at the River Plate football stadium in Buenos Aires, organized by Universidad Torcuato Di Tella. In 2012, she was member of the Curatorial Committee at ARCO`12´s Solo Projects in Madrid. Among other projects, she has been curator of “smART”, Freedom Tower, Miami Dade College, “Felix Gonzalez-Torres: Somewhere/Nowhere”, Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo MUAC, Mexico City, and MALBA-Colección Costantini, Buenos Aires; and Co-Curator the retrospective exhibition “Gillermo Kuitca” at the Centro de Arte Museo Reina Sofía, in Madrid and in MALBA-Colección Constantini, in Buenos Aires.
She has coordinated the first four editions of the Kuitca Grant for young artists.

João Mourão and Luis Silva

Solo Show Curatorors

João Mourão and Luis Silva are a curatorial duo based in Lisbon, Portugal, where they currently serve as co-directors of Kunsthalle Lissabon, a contemporary art institution they founded in 2009. A selection of recent shows they curated includes solos by Sol Calero, Irene Kopelman, Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa, Engel Leonardo, as well as group shows in institutions such as Extra City, Antwerp or David Roberts Art Foundation, London. Besides their curatorial practice, João Mourão and Luis Silva are also contributing editors of CURA magazine and co-editors of the ongoing book series Performing the Institution (al), addressing recent developments in institutional practice. Recently they have co-edited monographs on Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa and Pedro Barateiro. They were the curators of ZONA MACO SUR (2015 – 2017), the solo projects section of Mexico City’s contemporary art fair, of Artissima’s new section Disegni (2017 -2019), dedicated to recent developments in drawing and of the performance programme of ArtDubai 2019.

Agustín Díez Fischer

Isla de Ediciones selection and coordination

Agustín Díez Fischer (1982) is the director of the Centro de Estudios Espigas del Instituto de Investigaciones sobre el Patrimonio Cultural [Espigas Study Center for the Institute of Reasearch on Cultural Heritage/Universidad Nacional de San Martín] and a representantive of the Fundación Espigas. He holds a degree on Internatinal Relations (Universidad Católica Argentina/UCA) and a degree in Arts (Universidad de Buenos Aires/UBA). In 2017, he earned his doctorate degree in History and Art Theory at the School of Philosophy and Literature (Universidad de Buenos Aires/UBA) where he works as a teaching assistant for the Latin American Art II Course. He was the curator –along with Ruth Estévez and Miguel Ángel López- of the exhibition The Words of Others: León Ferrari and Rethoric in Times of War at REDCAT (Los Angeles, USA) as part of the Pacific Standard Time initiative with the support of the The Getty Foundation.
