PROJECT ROOMS
TWENTY FIVE PROJECTS IN CONSTELLATION
Aiming at expanding the borders of the traditional Art Fair-format –Límite Sud/ South Limit involves galleries but does not intend to become a Fair– we agreed with arteBA Foundation on building project rooms or rooms for the development of individual projects. These semi-closed spaces, with a surface of 30 square meters, meander and form small cells that let the artworks fully manifest themselves, without invading one another.
The starting point was to gather and show contemporary art of Buenos Aires, in tune with the São Paulo Biennial –undoubtedly one of the most important art events in our continent. The final selection consisted of twenty Argentinean artists, represented by twenty different local art galleries, that form a constellation of styles and trends permeated by an extreme dynamism, distinctive of our country’s contemporary art. Gathered by Límite Sud / South Limit, consecrated masters, artists that belong to the intermediate generation and young emergent ones exhibit their projects with neither thematic nor disciplinary restrictions: each room lets us enter a different world.
Some of these artists decided to carry out site-specific projects, based on concrete exhibition conditions. Others chose to show art works not usually shown, very recent or new ones, as well as historical pieces in dialogue with their new production. In terms of media, materials and techniques, Límite Sud / South Limit establishes no limits, as a platform conceived to dazzle all audiences.
Besides the rooms assigned to Argentinean artists, five more rooms for Latin American artists –selected by the internationally acclaimed Colombian critic and curator, José Roca– were added. These five guests reaffirm a work plan made of increasingly firm steps towards the articulation of a regional scene, sustained by the multiple cultural affinities that relate our imaginaries.
With the support of the galleries that represent them, these twenty five artists that take up Límite Sud / South Limit’s project rooms are part of an unprecedented experience for the city of Buenos Aires. Their works, shining in diversity, are the true protagonists of an initiative that aims at reflecting and strengthening the romance between the public and contemporary art. Artists, gallery owners, spectators and collectors once again offer all their energy so as to make our art circuit increasingly vital.
